  2. Our fees

Honest pricing. No surprises.

We believe clients are entitled to understand how a law firm charges before they instruct it. Our fees comply with the Advocates (Remuneration) Order, 2014, made under section 44 of the Advocates Act. We treat that Order as our floor, not our ceiling.

How we price our work

Four approaches. The right one is matched to your matter at the engagement stage.

Fixed fee

For well-defined services: commissioning, certification, registrations, single-class trade marks, demand letters and basic agreements. You know the fee in advance and it is not revised by surprise.

Scale fees

For conveyancing, probate and certain litigation, the Advocates (Remuneration) Order, 2014 prescribes scale fees as a percentage of value with stated minimums. We apply the scale directly.

Hourly

For complex advisory, constitutional litigation and regulatory work. Rates reflect the seniority of the fee earner. We agree an estimate first, bill monthly with time detail and tell you early if the budget is at risk.

Engagement fee plus success element

Where a matter has a measurable outcome, a base engagement fee plus a defined success element, disclosed in writing. We never agree to be paid solely on outcome.

Headline pricing for common services

Figures marked “from” are minimums and vary with scope. Your fee is confirmed in your letter of engagement.

What our fees do not include

Our quoted fees are professional fees only.

Value Added Tax at the applicable statutory rate, currently 16%.
Court filing fees, KIPI official fees, lands registry fees, stamp duty, courier and process serving, and other disbursements paid to third parties on your behalf.
Government and regulator fees of any description.

Substantial disbursements are normally paid upfront or transferred to our client account before we incur them. In litigation, printing and reproduction are covered by the file opening fee rather than billed as the matter proceeds.

As a general rule, the full agreed professional fee is payable before we start work. For court matters where our professional fee exceeds KES 300,000, fees are payable in two instalments: 70% before work starts and 30% before the first substantive hearing date. We do not start work, or attend court, against an unpaid instalment.

We issue tax-compliant invoices through the Kenya Revenue Authority’s eTIMS as a matter of course, at no surcharge. Our schedule of fees is reviewed each January and whenever a replacement Advocates (Remuneration) Order is gazetted. Material changes are notified to existing clients in writing.
